If you’ve been enjoying these few days of simple artmaking videos and feel ready for something more challenging – or want an excuse to visit a craft shop to get fresh art supplies….. here is a video to show new skills and materials
This video and making is by Betty Krause. I think her videomaking process is brilliant teaching – she shows you everything but plays back at double the speed so it’s not dull – and provides an excellent voiceover commentary afterwards, together with subtitles of the materials and special pens used, so you truly learn. (This video is about 18 minutes long).
Here, she is working across a double page at the start of an art journal – another way to make art. But of course, you could equally work it on a canvas if you wanted to keep the result on display. Or, now that I look at it again – it would make a great gift to make and give to a friend for the New Year or Christmas.
In this video, she boldly goes for writing over the top in a flowing series of lines – new to her. One word is accidentally misspelt but, nothing daunted, she then shows you how to correct such an error.
Materials used – acrylic paints, stencils, stamps, joint compound, some ripped pages of poetry, black Pitt pen (brush), china marker (grease pencil), Letraset letters, White Uniball Signo UM-153, Marvey brush marker (light green), Sharpie poster paint pen extra fine waterbased (in black) and finally distressed ink stamped around the edges to make the page look old. You can probably find similar materials with what you currently have – but if you want an excuse to buy some new art materials…..
